Working With The Media Trust
Written by:

Our Head of Development Amy Osterley and Senior Consultant Victoria Lugg met with trainees from the Media Trust to provide an insight into what makes a great CV, a stand-out cover letter and how to break into the media and entertainment industries.
Our session was part of The Media Trust’s Creativity Works, supported by the Mayor’s Fund for London. Creativity Works Futures is a free, intensive eight-week boot camp of high-impact media masterclasses and employability skills training for young adults from underrepresented backgrounds.
We started with an introduction to Amy and Victoria’s backgrounds, placements and employment history. Amy did an incredible job of relating to the group, sharing her educational background and the importance of having self-belief and ‘never apologising for what you don’t have, but showcasing your unique skills and talents. We then covered a deep insight into what should and shouldn’t be in a CV, followed up by discussing the structure of a cover letter and the correct layout. Throughout, Amy and Victoria answered questions expertly, showing their ability to relate to anyone at any age. Putting many of the group worries and concerns to bed, around what jobs they can apply for and having a lack of relevant history to put on their CV.
Amy had this to say on why we keep returning year on year. “We have worked with the Media Trust for several years and it is a partnership we are very proud of. We are always trying to think of ways to help the next generation enter the industry, and working with the students who come from a variety of backgrounds and marginalised groups is vital to ensuring the sector has diversity and different voices. Now more than ever we recognise the importance of supporting the students with their career goals and ambitions of working in TV, film or the arts and advertising world and we are keen to continue helping where we can. Volunteering some of our time is the least we can do to show them some commitment and support.”
It was an excellent experience with the trainees at the Media Trust, and we hope those that did attend our session came away feeling more confident and prepared. We look forward to watching you all progress throughout your media careers and who knows, we will probably end up placing you in a role further down the line, we hope!
We want to thank The Media Trust for having us back time and time again and letting us be a part of your truly inspirational training scheme. It is a great experience for all of the team and rewarding to know that we will be helping make a difference in these young adults careers. We will keep coming back, as long as you will have us.
